in Alicante
Physiotherapy for tennis elbow and lateral epicondylitis at our clinic in Playa de San Juan, with effective, evidence-based treatment.
Epicondylitis, or tennis elbow, is one of the most common tendinopathies. Pain on the outer side of the elbow when gripping, turning or extending the wrist can be very disabling. At OneLab we treat it with a specific approach that combines manual therapy, dry needling and eccentric exercise.
Treatment of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) at our clinic in Playa de San Juan, Alicante. A complete and effective approach.
What is epicondylitis?
Tennis elbow: much more than an athlete's problem
Lateral epicondylitis, popularly known as tennis elbow, is a tendinopathy of the forearm extensor muscles at their insertion on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. Despite the name, it mainly affects people who perform repetitive gripping or wrist-extension movements: builders, office workers, cooks, musicians or homemakers. Medial epicondylitis, or golfer's elbow, affects the flexor muscles through a similar mechanism.
Pain on the outer side of the elbow
Precise pain over the lateral epicondyle that is reproduced when the area is pressed and can radiate down the forearm, sometimes as far as the wrist.
Pain when gripping and pinching
Any gripping movement (opening a bottle, shaking hands, grabbing a pan) reproduces or intensifies the pain, significantly limiting daily life.
Overuse tendinopathy
It is not pure inflammation but tendon degeneration (tendinosis) from accumulated overload. This explains why anti-inflammatories alone are not enough as a treatment.
Weak grip
In advanced stages, pain causes reflex muscle inhibition that reduces grip strength, making simple tasks such as writing or holding objects difficult.
How we treat it
Physiotherapy for epicondylitis in Playa de San Juan
Epicondylitis treatment at OneLab combines techniques aimed at the affected tendon, the forearm muscles and the biomechanical factors that perpetuate the overload. The key is to combine offloading the tendon in the short term with strengthening it in the long term. At our clinic in Playa de San Juan we treat athletes and patients from the whole north of Alicante.
Manual therapy. Elbow mobilisation, release of the forearm extensor muscles and transverse friction techniques at the tendon insertion.
Dry needling. Needling of the trigger points in the extensor carpi radialis and the affected tendon to stimulate the repair response of the degenerated tissue.
Tecar therapy. Deep heating of the tendon and extensor muscles to improve local circulation and speed up tendon regeneration.
Eccentric exercise. A specific eccentric tendon loading programme, the most effective long-term treatment according to the scientific evidence.
